Fast failing server connection

Hi. I have a mail server that is only accesible @work. The problem is that when I come home, Outlook Express tries to connect to the mail server (to the local IP accessible only from work). Of course this is not accessible, but Outlook does not timeout or the timeouts are high. How can I make it fail fast ? It is on another network address than I am.
I use 192.168.2.0, @work I have 192.168.10.0

Mail Accounts>Advanced>Server Timeouts, and set to Short, 30 Seconds. Is that what you are looking for? Not Outlook?

it does not work. I think this applies only after a connection has been established ... but this never happens. It cannot happen since the server is not accesible.

I would create a new OE Profile, one for home and one for Office....Actually, just create a new Identity for Home, and only use reachable email accounts.....

This would imply switching of profiles. I would like something automatic. When I am at work, it simply works, when I am at home, the mail account fails ... and fast.

Honestly, I dont think you are going to be able to do that.......The Server Connection Timeo9ut is for the connection to the server, and if that settigns isnt helping, I dont have any other ideas...Havent supported OE for a long time... Sorry...

I'm not just talking about OE, but maybe make the ip associated with the name to be translated to 127.0.0.1 when I am at home ... or ... ???

OE is the client, but it's only a piece of the system (Operating System might help).
