I have two computers that are not networked but I would like to connect my HP Laserjet 1200 printer so that I can print to it from both pc's.  I have a tripp-lite ultra mini USB hub but I don't think that is what I need.  the hub indicates it will connect 4 usb peripherals to 1 computer -- but I want to connect 1 usb printer to two computers.  What type of device or cable do I need to purchase?  Thank you.

mmj1,

You need a USB print server.  It will allow you to connect a USB printer to it and then share it with other USB devices.

Are the computers close to each other and the printer (i.e. 2-3 meters)?  If so, that model of printer supports both USB and Parallel and you could connect one computer with USB and another using a parallel cable.  This assumes that the computer has a USB port and the other computer has a parallel port.

Let me know if you have any questions or need more information.

The term USB Print Server may give some false results that will require the computers to be networked.  The better term may be USB switch.  These Belkin swiches (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatSectionView.process?Section_Id=201501) will provide an idea of what you want.  There are other manufacturers.  If you want help finding a product let me know what country and other details (i.e. price, etc) and I will try to help.

Thanks for the help.  I did look at the link you provided and it does appear I need the 2x1 switch $39.99.  I am going to Office Depot tonight and hope to find what I need at the store.
