HP Silent fan patch

I have a HP Prolient DL140 server which I recently moved form a data center into my office. This server's fan is running substantially louder than the other servers that I have in the office. I have been told that there is a HP patch that reduces the speed of the fan. This will reduce the noise created by the fan.

I have no idea where to find this patch or what this patch is called. Any ideas where I can find this patch?

Thank you for your time.

Personally I would not want to slow down the fan speeds. You want to ensure proper cooling to the unit. I'm not sure if you have the CD's for that server or not but here is the download for the Proliant DL140 G2 Server. It's the Software Support CD maybe there is somthing that can help you on that.

Do you have the System Management Homepage installed? I think I read you can adjust fan settings in there.

I just found a page that mentions the BMC can control fan speeds. Have you looked into that? There were 3 types of DL140's on the site I tried from the link below , and I wasn't sure which one you had and which OS you were using. You may want to look up how to adjust the fan with the BMC.

"The BMC provides similar functionality on the DL140 to Advanced Server Management (ASM) on other ProLiant servers which is to manage environmental devices such as the fan speed, temperature sensors, power supply status, and LEDs. The BMC holds the operational code, sensor data records (SDR), and system event log (SEL).

NOTE: Upgrading the BMC is similar to upgrading the BIOS. Copy the new zipped image from the DL140 support website to external media, unzip and boot from the media (USB disk key or floppy.) The BMC will be updated automatically.

The BMC holds the operational code, sensor data records (SDR), and system event log (SEL).

NOTE: All updates for the DL140 can be downloaded from the DL140 support website on hp.com from http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/index.html . Also the updates will need to be downloaded onto a USB external storage device such as the HP drive key, unzip them, and then boot from the external storage device. "

I think you are right. I just need to update BMC and custom configure it. My problem now is that I get to the download page: http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/locate/69_5771.html , but I'm not sure which packages here I should install in order to update the BMC?
