I think it was a DNS issue, I added the server name and IP to the hosts file and problem went away.

Getting this error message: Project Server failed to update the links between the issue and selected tasks. &nbsp;Log on to Project Web Access and link the issue to tasks from the Tasks, Resource Assignments, or Project Drill-down page.<br />

Some research found that the intranet url might be wrong in configuration, but that's not the case.<br />
