stop error 0x7b and 0xf4

I'm getting 2 kinds of stop error codes: 0x7b and 0xf4
the whole text in the blue screen are described below:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.
If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed (there hasn't been
any new software or hardware installed in a long time). If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software
manufacturerfor any windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.  Disable BIOS memory
options such as caching or shadowing.  ( I don't know how to do this).
If you need to use Safe Mode to remove  or disable componets, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced
Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode. (I have started in safe mode but didn't know which components to disable or remove.)

Technical Information: ***STOP: 0x000000F4  ***STOP: 0x000000F4 (0x00000003,0x81A4C4D8,0x81A4C64C,0x805FA7A8).

Beginning dump of physical
memory.  Physical memory dump complete.
Contact your system administrator or technical support group for further assistance

>And the other 0x7b error under technical information says:
** STOP: 0x0000007b (0xf7980528, 0xc0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
-I'm not sure of the last 2 parameters, nor the correct sequence of those parameters in the brackets, for that i'd have to reproduce the error by powering up the pc again. Not now, next time I'll give the specifics.

>To solve this, is there a "registry fix" type of software(free of sypware) that i could download?. I came accross a product namely registry fix, which claims to fix these automatically, but don't know if it's a rogue tool.

well finding out what caused it would be better, I'm suspecting hardware, these stop errors could be related to several pieces of hardware. First I assume since you didn't mention it, that you have not installed any new hardware in the system?  If you have, remove it and try to reboot.  Next, it's diagnostic time.
First suspect is hard drive or ram.  Download the manufacturer's hard drive diagnostics software for the hard drive, run this and see if you have any problems there.
Next is ram, do you have another stick of ram that you can install to test?  This is easiest way to find out.  If not, download memtest from: http://www.memtest86.com/ and run that, then download docmem from: http://www.simmtester.com/PAGE/products/doc/docinfo.asp
They are both free, why run 2? because often times one of them will miss a bad spot, but unlikely that they both will.  If these come back as good, then check your powersupply. you can use a tester for this, or you can use a multimeter and test for the appropriate voltages.
If none of this solves the problem, let us know and we'll dig further.

so you rule out viruses?
I don't rule them out, but they rarely if ever cause these sort of stop error messages.
I'm not familiar enough with samsung to know where the diags are, or how to locate them. Have you tried their website?

I've found it on their site, but it warns that its write feature might erase the data in the drive. does it happen with any diagnostic tool?
I've never had it cause a problem, but as a precaution as always if there is data you don't want to lose, back it up first!  Always protect data first then proceed with diagnostics.

I'd prefer a generic dignostic tool not the samsung's one. do u know of any that can check samsung drives.
I've been told that Seagate's diagnostics works on all drives. But preferred the diags used by same company that made the drive.
Forefront used to make something called Troubleshooter that was relatively good at hard drive diags, took much longer to run and didn't fix anything if it foudn something wrong.  But I haven't been able to locate it lately.

as for the backup, unfortunately i don't have another another drive to do it
Oviously backing up is essential any time you work with data and hard drives.  If it were my drive and my data, I wouldn't feel at all insecure about running the Seatools based on 11 years of running it and not having any problems.  But it's not my drive, and it's not my data, if you brought it to me, I would back it up before i ran it just so that I wasn't taking any chance with your stuff.  If the data on there is at all important it might be woth the investment to purchase an extra drive just for this purpose.

the errors described just happens when I start the pc from a shutdown state. and ocassionally I get an additional blue screen that says:
stop c000021a
unknown hard error

hope this clarifies if it's a hardware issue.

Cayi,
Thanks for the points, just for future reference, was it the psu or the hard drive?
Happy Holidays!
