DataGridView Control Object Reference Not Set Error

Last Modified: 2012-06-27

I’m using VS.NET 2005 DataGridView control.  The following line of code gives me an error that states NullReferenceException was Unhandled and
Object Reference Not Set to an Instance of an Object:

.DataGridView.DataSource = ds.Tables("Shippers")

My entire code is as follows:

Private Sub LoadMapGridTest()

        Dim sCon As String
        Dim sSQL As String

        'Use Northwind database and table called Shippers
        sCon = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=C:\Data\Northwind.mdb;"
        sSQL = "Select CompanyName from Shippers"

        Dim da As New OleDbDataAdapter(sSQL, sCon)
        Dim ds As New DataSet

        'Bind the DataSet to the DataGrid
        da.Fill(ds, "Shippers")
        Me.DataGridView1.DataSource = ds.Tables(0)

        With Me.DataGridView1
            ' Set DataGridView Column for CompanyName field
            Dim Col1 As DataGridViewTextBoxColumn = New DataGridViewTextBoxColumn
            With Col1
                .DataPropertyName = "CompanyName"
                .HeaderText = "CompanyName"
                .Width = 80
                ' Bind Column to Shippers table
                .DataGridView.DataSource = ds.Tables("Shippers")
            End With
        End With

    End Sub
