MPI & Python

Python

I've run across two possibilities that seem reasonable: pypar and swig+python+MPI.  I don't want the pympi that makes you build a separate pympi interpreter.  I would like to have something that I can quickly prototype mpi programs using Python.

So far, installation of pypar has failed, with it choking on:
"lib/pypar/mpiext.c:33:33: Numeric/arrayobject.h: No such file or directory"

My guess is that there is a disconnect between the numpy lib that pypar requires and the pypar installation.

I'm not that familiar with swig, and do not want to write all of my own python 2 c interfaces with swig, since my goal is to quickly prototype an mpi program in python, and not waste time trying to compile pypar or get python calling mpi functions.

Do you know of any previous attempts at building swig interfaces to MPI for python already, or better solutions to working with pypar, or perhaps another solution that I haven't thought of?
