Difficult Problem with Wireless Networking

Last Modified: 2013-11-09
I'm have a client who is trying to get wireless networking consistantly working on their laptop. First, the client was reporting that after the computer was restarted, they were kicked off the network and couldn't see their access point in the list of wireless networks. I turned the beacon on and suggested that they make sure they are turning the computer completely off instead of letting it hibernate. After I made those changes, they were reporting they could see the access point but got a password error when they tried to connect. Usually when I arrive, they have connected their computer directly to the access point and once I move everything back to a wireless setup, it's working fine. I've tried switching out the routers, changing the channel, updating the firmware on the router, checked the latest drivers for the wireless card (linksys), resetting the router to factory defaults and reconfiguring and running a utility to fix Winsock values.

They have a laptop running XP Home with a linksys card / router and they are using WEP encryption.
