Application delay in exporting to a local Terminal Services drive

Here is my scenario:  I am using Remote Desktop Connection on an XP workstation to access an application on a Windows Server 2003 box.  The application produces reports using Crystal Reports (version 8.0).  The application offers an export option for these reports to many different formats i.e. comma sep value, character sep value, Word, Excel, ect.  When I export a report to the desktop on the application server the report finishes exporting without any delay.  However, when I choose to export the same exact report to my local drive (\\tsclient\C on EntireNetwork), the report takes forever to finish exporting.

Looking at the file stats I can see the following:
Report exported to the server desktop - 3 Opens, 3 Close, 25 Reads, and 1 Writes
Report exported to tsclient Local C - 7 Opens, 3 Close, 25 Reads, and 2,222 Writes

Why are there so many more 'Writes' going on when I try to export to my local C:\ drive? Why is causing the delay? Are the size of the packets travelling over the network being kept to a minimum size? Is it a rights issue?  Thanks for any ideas!
