Importing FLV video file format into MS PowerPoint

So far I have been unable to import video files into MS PowerPoint 2003 (PP) unsing the normal "insert/movies and sounds/movie from file" process.  PP does not recognize the video format.  I have tried various "free" format converters, but those that have been sucessful in coverting the FLV file into a WMV format, won't import either.  PP will lock up and not present the "automatic run" option that occurs during a normal video import.

Does anyone have a suggestion or work around?

Thanks.
