How to Setup A VPN Connection from a WinXP Laptop to a Netgear ProSafe VPN Router

Hello Experts,

I recently purchased a Netgear ProSafe VPN Router Model FWG114P. The router works perfectly and all of my computers can access the network as well as the internet without fail (even my Vonage works)! I am also trying my best to access my home network from my office through a laptop. I was told a VPN connection to the router would do the trick, so I setup a VPN connection via the web interface on the router using the wizard provided. I then tried to setup a dial up / vpn connection using the Windows XP dialer. No success. I called Netgear tech support and after a bit of trouble shooting I am told that the router is working fine as they can connect without a problem. I asked them how I setup windows to get connected to my network and they told me that is not supported since it is not the router that is at fault! I read the manual and to be honest most of it doesn't make sense to me. I understand the very basics of home networking but this whole VPN thing is completely new.

So, my question is this: Can anyone give me step by step instructions on how to connect my Laptop to the VPN Router at home? This connection would be directly from my PC to my Router (not Router to Router). Keep in mind that I am a beginner so a detailed explanation would be helpful. I don’t know what information you need other then the router model to get this going. If you need more then that, like the settings the router predefined during the wizard for the VPN, you can either check the manual out at: http://kbserver.netgear.com/pdf/fwg114pv2_ref_manual_19july05.pdf or ask me and I will do my best to find what you need.
