Forwarding pacbell.net address to 2 other addresses?
Hi.
We have an old @pacbell.net address that I am trying to phase out. I am doing so by forwarding all the email to two other email addresses which will be staying
What is the best way to accomplish that??
This is the way I currently have it set up..
A pop3 program on our exchange server gets the email for the @pacbell.net account, sends it to an active directory user, which then forwards the email to another pop3 account, which in turn forwards to the two email addresses. I have not been able to forward to more than one smtp address from Exchange 2000, hence why it goes to the pop3 which then can forward to the two others.
The problem with this setup is that a LOT of the email going to that address gets stuck in the outgoing queue in Exchange and sits there and doesn't get sent out. I've attempted troubleshooting it but had no luck getting the emails to flow properly, so looking at other alternatives
I am NOT able to forward to anything from the @pacbell.net address directly.
Help a fella out? Thank you!

Our pop3 connector has been working fine and doesn't give us any problems, so we continue to use it.
Thanks. I will try that. I hope then exchange will do the rest without problems
Since its now moved into the Exchange section - any idea why only those specific forwarded emails are the ones stuck in queue? does exchange not play well with forwards?

Exchange plays fine with forwards, I just think that the setup is needlessly complicated, and the issue will probably disappear when you use a DL.
As for the POP3 Connector - don't get me wrong, while I hate them with a passion, I still use them when there is little other option.

Sorry for the probably silly question, but how do you forward to a DL? I created the DL, however when trying to forward to it (from user Properties --> Exchange General --> Delivery Options --> Forward to: ) I am not able to pull up the DL through the AD browser. I've created the DL under exchange public folders
Thanks
Thanks
Does your DL show as having an email address?
ASKER
I'm not sure? I created it through Outlook 2000 under All Public Folders --> Outside Contacts. I don't show it anywhere as having an actual email address. It was not created through AD Users and Computers.
Thanks
Thanks
Ahhhhhhhh *ding*
You want to create it with the Active Directory Users and Computers console.

Thanks, that's the exact way that I have it set up now.
But I'm unable to create an SMTP/contact that forwards to two SMTP addresses. The only "Distribution List" I was able to find was in Outlook/Exchange in the address book/contacts.
Do you mean create two SMTP contacts in AD, then create a distribution group, and forward it to the distribution group?
Thanks

Ok, that makes sense. Let me try it on Monday.
Thanks

No worries, sorry it took so long. Had I chosen my words better you could have sorted this 2 days ago.

I haven't had too much time to play with this lately, but your solution for adding two email addresses to the forward is good, so I'll award you the points
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help.
That is a confusing question, but I think I understand at least part of it.
For Exchange to forward to multiple addresses, you will need to create a distribution list. Add the 2 external accounts to the distribution list and then forward the exchange mailbox to the DL.
That will take a link out of the equation, which will hopefully make things a little bit smoother. Of course, as long as you are using a POP3 Connector, you are going to have problems (which is why we always try not to use them)
