Firebird Advice and discussion

I am using Delphi 7 and presently use DBISAM Client Server.

I am interested in using Firebird for a project but have stalled at the first hurdle.

I downloaded Firebird 2.0 and have it running and have had a look around it. However when I came to try to connect to it from Delphi it seems I cant connect to it using the Interbase controls as they are not compatible.  Likewise IBObjects does not support Firebird 2 at the moment.

I prefer not to use ADO as I dont want to have to distribute the ADO libraries (one reason I came to Delphi from VB).

What do the experts suggest, should I use Firebird 1.5, or what alternatives do I have for connecting to a Firebird 2 database.

I can use ODBC but would prefer a more direct access method.

Your thoughts appreciated.
