I prefer to download all my music from iTunes but some I have had to download from WalMart as it was not available from iTunes.

I have purchased an iPod for my wife and would like to use the downloaded music on the iPod.  Ofcourse, the iTunes downloads will work but the WalMart downloads won't.

First...is it legal to convert the WMA protected files to MP3 so they can be placed on the iPod.

Second...do the conversion programs such as WMAConvert work?
