Can't delete items in Outlook 2002 deleted items folder

Hi, I can't delete items from the deleted items folder in Outlook 2002. It will delete random email, but then an error message will appear "The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem persists restart Outlook." Once this error comes up, I can't delete any items. I first tried compacting the pst file as it was over 1GB, and got it down to 990MB. Tried deleting the items again after I added the pst file to a different computer running Outlook. Still the same problem. I have tried creating another profile, and adding the pst file to the profile. Still same result. I then tried moving the emails from the pst inbox to the new pst file inbox (the one created in new profile), but it came up with error "Can't move the items. Could not complete the operation. One or more paramater values are not valid". I then tried importing the bad pst file to a newly created profile, but got an error saying "error, not all items could be imported". I pressed OK to that, and saw that less then a quarter of the emails had been imported. I then tried exporting the pst file, and the same problem occured as when trying to import. I then tried using the Inbox Repair Tool on the pst file. It found errors and I chose to repair them, but this didn't fix the initial problem. Anyone know if there is a way I can save the data I have on the pst file and move it to another one somehow without moving the problem?

Are you running exchange? if so, create a new outlook profile.

otherwise try renaming the .bak file that Scanpst generates to a .pst file, and importing the old messages to a new .pst folder
Sounds like the file is corrupt - not unusual. Read this -

yeah well I ended up restoring the pst file from a backup made 3 weeks ago. From this backup I was able to delete items as normal. After doing this I managed to archive items between yesterday and nearly 3 weeks ago from the corrupt file. I then imported that archive file to my healthy restored backup file. Ended up only losing a couple of days of data. Thanks for the comments.
good to hear you got it solved! dont forget to ask for a points refund at
