Adding an exchange server to a satellite office

We have 2 offices, one in NY and one in DC
Main office is NY which is where our exchange server is located.
Bandwidth monitoring has shown that exchange traffic from users in our DC office is killing our bandwidth in NY even though they are all running Outlook in cached mode.

We are planning on adding an exchange server in DC to alleviate this problem.

Question is, how do I set this up so email doesn't all still go through the main exchange server in NY.

Requirement: Email addresses must stay the same, can NOT do something like username@dc.company.com

Hi,

Use the SMTP Connector and set the NY Exchange server as the BridgeHead Server.

why only focus on SMTP connector?
more important thing is move DC user's mailbox to DC exchange server.
well i took it that he was planning on moving mailboxes over there first to DC

itcoza: So just to be clear on this, if I set up a connector/bridgehead does the message ever pass through our T1 in NY or does it tell the sender to send it direct to the DC exch server?

strongline: That is already part of the plan that I thought went without saying, thanks.
your mx are poitint to NY-mail will still flow in through NY and than through by T1 to DC
for outgoing mail if you use NY as bridgehead it will still go through TI -you need to create a seperate connecter in DC by using seperate routing groups

Hmmmm, so if I'm understanding this right it wouldn't really resolve our bandwidth problem?  Are there any other ideas?
no using seperate routing group for DC email will not be sent throgh the T1 thereby reducing traffic
