asked on

Creating an account and forwarding to other mailboxes

Hi EXperts.

I would like to setup an account in exchange.
the name of the account is accounts etc etc

i created the active dierectory name accounts.

i would like this to be a exchange mail account aswell.

i will then add it to a client machine to check the mail.. al i would like to know is how do i also forward all the mail that goes to accounts to 2 other users on the exchange.

so all mail addressed to user named accounts@example.com will goto accounts mailbox and 2 other users (mailboxes) in the same domain (exchange)

thankyou

Greg

Hi Avision27,

Create a distribution list for the people that you want to forward mail to (call this Accounts Group or something like that)

Then, add the Accounts users to that group, and then you can forward all mail from the Accounts Mailbox to the Accounts Group, which in turn will go to all the Accounts Users

Hope that helps,

Thankyou for the ideas.

I was Thinking i needed to create a mailbox for accounts so all mail will hit the mailbox then i had the idea to send a copy of the email Accounts@example.com to the other users that needed to also have this email.

You made it more clear to setup a distribution list.

Could i ask a favour and give me a step by step proccedure to do this. im not sure if i would do it correctly in exchange and active dsirectory and would hate to mess it up.

cheers

Greg
No worries Greg,

A Distribution Group is what we are creating here (I know this as synonymous with Distribution List, but caused confusion with it previously).

Go into AD > right click on the users OU (folder) > New > Group

There is a visual how to here -> http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/User-Groups-Distribution-List-Contact-Management.html (about three fifths down)

Basicall, you want;

A distribution group that is universal, to set the mailbox name or alias to something like Accounts, to add your members to it, and to wait 15 minutes after you create it to see if it has picked up an email address automatically (which should then be changed if necessary)

That may not be as clear as you were hoping, but really, as long as you go > New > Group, there really isn't anything you can break.

If you are still really unsure about this, I can do some detailed steps for you (I should do this for myself anyway, so don't feel bad if you want me to :)).  But this will be in the morning (about 9 hours from now).

I urge you to give it a go :)

Good luck

Thanks -Red
I have noticed that there already is a group called accounts and in this folder is 4 users. one is accounts

There is 2 users under AD management folder that i want them to be able to see the accounts@example.com email in their outlook.

what would be the next step to add the users for management or is this automaticlly done if i was to send an email to to accounts@example.com?

cheers
You are starting to lose me :)

What do you want these 2 users to do?

Receive anything sent to accounts@example.com to their inbox?

OR

See a dedicated, seperate mailbox for accounts@example.com?

-red
Sorry red i was not clear on this.

Basiclly i understand regarding the distribution lists and what i have done is added the 2 users to members of in AD and added accounts to there member of AD.

when i now send an email to accounts@example.com one of the main accounts users is not receieving the accounts@example.com email.

thankyou for guiding me as you have made me have a better understanding of this.

i will get back to you why this email is not being delivered to the other accounts user.

it is working with the other users

cheers
Thankyou red for all your help, it was very easy.

all is working 100%
No worries, glad to hear you got it sorted :)
