C pointer array sizeof

Hi experts,

My problem is I need to know the sizeof my dynamically mallocated array.
Since it's a pointer to the heap, it just tells me the size of my pointer...
It seems like my ways around this, are to send the size of my array around everywhere...
or to switch to array[] syntax, but then I am not sure how to pass these around.

For example,
struct TDC { float channel; float data; };
struct MetaTDC {  TDC *x1; TDC *x2; TDC *y; }

how would I change this to array notation?  Are there any forseeable problems with a fullscale change to [] notation?
Thanks
Dan
