Cisco Passwords?

I'm more of a sysadmin windows guy, but I'm filling in for our old networking guy that is no longer here.  What I need to do is change the password that lets you onto the router when I telnet to it, and change the enable password.  Now, I know something in windows domains changing the admin pw can cause problems if you use your admin account for backups and other things.  Do I have to worry about anything like this with Cisco routers?  I just don't want to change the passwords and then our whole network shutdowns, because of a password issue.  Also what is the syntax I need to use to change the passwords?  Thanks
