Unable to load explorer. lsass.exe failed to initialize
Hi folks, i need some help to fix this.
When i start my thie HD running xp sp2, it boots and then says "lsass.exe the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005). Click OK to terminate the application"
I click "OK", the same message reappears. So i click "OK" again. Then xp just hangs at the wallpaper screen.
Explorer does not load and i do not have access to any functions at all. ALT+DEL+CTRL does not work. Safe mode doesn't work either. I have attached this problem drive as a slave to another, is there anything i can do now to fix the problem? Many thanks!

Can you boot the machine on the master drive? If so you copy lsass.exe off a working machine and onto the broken intall at c:\windows\system32\dllcac he\lsass.e xe and c:\windows\system32\lsass. exe. You can also extract the file from an xp install cd or service pack if you have no access to another machine.
Failing this you could be looking at a repair install: boot machine from xp machine, hit F8 then enter then R and reinstall over the top of your current install then reapply hotfixes, etc. You data will be preserved but some programs may require reinstalling.

Either way, it doesn't sound very good, you may have to consider reinstalling WinXP. I'll look around some more... Seems odd that this issue has been coming across frequently...
Good luck!
