Writable DVD disc seem as blank of anything written on white surface

I have Pioneer DVD writer. If I use writable disc (Fujifilm White Surface DVD-R) recorded with Intervideo software, it will be read OK.  But if I write on surface, or run through Epson printer, the disc is recognized as a CD and Blank, not information.  If the writable surface is left blank the disc reads normally.  I really don't plan to use anymore of these discs, but I have valuable photos on the unreadable discs and need some way to read them.  Thanks, David
