Outlook 2007 PST corrupted - can not copy / move messages from it

Outlook 2007 BTR2 crashed few times (computer h/w related). Installed the computer from scratch - Office 2007 as well.
Now I can not copy / move  90% of the messages from old pst to new one.
1. Used Scanpst on the file and fixed reported errors - problem not solved.
2. Performed a defrag (from the outlook) on the datafile - problem not solved.
3. Tried final 2007 version - no luck!

So far Microsoft forums could not help or solve the problem!! I must get the data copied to another (clean and working) 2007 pst...

Thanks,

M. Bodik

Greetings, Mbodik !

Make sure to run ScanPST utility a couple of times.

If no joy and you must recover the emails, use Outlook Recovery
http://www.officerecovery.com/outlook/index.htm

Outlook Recovery program will give a free demo to see what emails you can recover. If you want to actually recover the emails, you will need to pay for the program.

Best wishes!

Hi Mbodik,

Do not use the 2007 repair utility. I hear it has some problems.

Import the file into a running copy of Outlook 2003. Create a new
Unicode PST there, and copy all folders over (don't use import/export,
that feature has its problems as well). Use copy & paste or the copy
folders command.

You have to to do this for your calendar, contacts, notes, journal as well, but you should be able to do
it.
Then make a backup copy of that file. Take the file and try to open it
in 2007.

Thanks all,
I have done all you said, but the problem remains.
I tried few times with the scanpst (on a copy of the pst file) and that did not do anything, and tried a different copy on the Outlook 2003.... No luck - anymore suggestions?

Thanks
Mbodik, did you use Outlook Recovery to recover your emails, as I propose above?
Hi Mbodik,

What happens when you try to move the emails?

You do them them, correct?

Thanks for posting answers to this problem.

To War1:
I did use the Outlook Recovery demo, but there is no telling if it worked as the emails recovered are all masked with their logo to force you to buy the complete version. It is pretty expensive investment for just one time recovery...

To Frankco:
When adding the pst to the Outlook I get the notice:  "You are about to add a non-Unicode capable store to your profile. this store should not be used to store multilingual Unicode data. Do you want to continue?"
When I try to copy I get the error: "cannot copy the items".  This pst was the old one off the same Outlook 2007 I use!
Twice I saw a different error that said that copy can not be done from the highest level in the tree... But I try to copy from one pst to a new one.

Hi Mbodik,

Ah, it's a format problem.

Unicode format is used for PST files in Outlook 2003
Older versions use ANSI.

Click on File ~ Data file management ~ Add and choose Folder instead of pst. This will be backward compatible.
Move the emails into the new folder.

H Mbodik,

Just one more question. When you create a pst, what option are you using? Personal Folders or Office Outlool Personal folder file?

Hi Frankco,

I tried the detailed in the articles before, no luck. I get a copy error when trying to copy items, and "some items cannot be copied. They were either moved or deleted, or access was denied" when trying to import from that pst.
I choose "Office Outlook Personal Folders File" when creating a new pst under the 2007. The corrupted pst used to be this way too...
I tried to create a 2002 style pst (the other option) and import to this file, but no luck there too.
