Bad to have hosting and domain through same company?

I have read it is bad to have both of these hosted by the same company. Is this true? Can somebody explain?

Thanks,

Okay, thanks for the information on this. I had read something about it and was not sure how or why this would effect the website.

Thanks again,

Joe
I know an answer has already been accepted, but I want to throw in my two cents.  Klykken points out one of the primary reasons why it is a very good idea to keep domain registration and hosting apart, but says don't worry too much about it.  But if you read through a lot of the old questions in the hosting topic area, you will see that 1) it does happen more often than it should and 2) the consequences of these problems can be quite dire, especially for a commercial site.

Therefore, I strongly recommend to all of my clients that they keep domain registration and hosting separate.  If your website is even slightly important to you, you should maintain control over it and protect it.  It's as simple as that.
