Ghost internal error 25003

OK, running HP system with a fault hard drive, it boots up with smart errors, so I got a replacement drive sent out via warranty.
Using Ghost 2004 floppy to copy the old hard drive to the new one.
There are two partitions on the drive, one is the fat partition that HP stores the restoration info in, the other is the main partition NTFS.
The FAT partition goes the thru the copy process fine, but as soon as I get to the NTFS partition Ghost stops with the error:
Internal Error 25003: An internal discrepancy was discovered.  If it continues, contact technical support.  The only option is to click <ok> and it returns you to the a: prompt.
I tried starting ghost with the -ntc- switch, same result.
I used windows xp defrag to analyze the drive, and it says it doesn't need defragged.
The system will boot and runs fine in windows, it was actually brought into me because the internet was not working. I booted it got the smart error, contacted the customer and then the vendor for hard drive warranty support.  Backed up the data and waited for a new drive.
Any suggestions?

Have tried using XP's Chkdsk on that drive letter? You could run a check first without repairing and then if errors are reported, go back and let XP try to resolve those issues, before retrying Ghoste.exe.

Click Start, select Run - In the box, type--> cmd -->Click <OK>
Then run the chkdsk utility by typing in the following command ( assuming the drive you wish to check is the C: drive):

chkdsk c:               (does the checking w/o repair taking place - to gauge the file system's condition)
-or-
chkdsk c: /f /r        (the /f parameter automatically fixes any errors, the /r locates bad sectors & recovers readable information.

A reboot will then ensue, for the Chkdsk program to take control of the volume and commence file system checking.
(The above procedure can also be initiated via Right-click of C:\ drive in My Computer and choosing Properties-->Tools-->Check Now)

*THEN* retry the operation to "ghost" the partition.

sirbounty,
Wasn't aware of the -ntil switch, will have to try that one.

kbens0n,
I left the machine at the shop tonite running chkdsk with /r switch in hopes that it would work.  I am not really worried about damaging data, I have already backed it up, just would like to ghost it so I don't have to reinstall all of his programs. Just being lazy I guess...

Tomorrow being Sunday, or actually, it being Sunday already, I probably won't go into the shop till Monday, so I'll try it again after the chkdsk and then if no go will try -ntil switch sirbounty suggested.  What exactly is that switch?
Along with any other good suggestions someone throws my way this weekend.

Thanks guys,
Jappo
Without the -ntil switch, Ghost may not preserve the NTFS format. This switch tells Ghost to ignore the NTFS log file. Use the -NTIL switch when you create an image and when you restore the image. Images that are created and restored with the use of this switch should restore correctly.
Ok guys,
I've tried running ghost with the -ntil switch as well, no luck, still same error.
According to that post from sirbounty, I should run a defragmenter/optimizer like symantec's speed disk. Don't really want to purchase their program just to see if this is going to work. Anyone know of a good free or shareware version that is cheaper than Norton Utils for this function?
I have run the defrag that comes with xp, analyze says it doesn't need defragged...
I'm all ears to anymore suggestions....
Jappo
You can try to force it with the xp version:

defrag c: -f <Enter>

from a command line...
Here's a list of some - I have 'no' experience with any of these though...

http://www.thefreecountry.com/utilities/defragmentation.shtml
As an after thought I've uploaded the ghosterror.txt from the last time trying to run it. Thought maybe someone could make more of this than I can.
https://filedb.experts-exchange.com/incoming/ee-stuff/1745-GHOSTERR.TXT
OK, forced the defrag in windows, tried a couple of freebies, to no avail.  Still same message....
Any more ideas?
Hmm- no, not from me.  Looks like you're using similar hardware and setup to our environment...not sure why it's not working for you...

Perhaps a 20-point pointer question in the Operating Systems topic area would help attract further experts...
Oh and you can also use www.ee-stuff.com to automatically place pointer questions...from the Expert tab...
Thanx Sir, I'll try that....
Sorry I couldn't be of further help... : \
hey man, you tried, and i really appreciate it... I know how it feels to get to the end of the rope too...
I posted a pointer in hardware, desktops, and o/s, so maybe there will be a solution out there....
Saw that - very nicely done...those will probably attract some experts in here.
I just hope the holidays aren't going to keep hopes slim.  I myself am leaving for holiday today and won't be back until next Sunday (unless my mother-in-law let's me use her broadband and my wife allows me to take my laptop. :)

Best of luck to you!

LOL you sound like me, everyone tries to keep me from the computer when I come over....
Enjoy your holidays and Merry Christmas to ya!

Also found a freeware defragmenter that cleans up the "slack" space that Window's defragger doen't deal with:
DirMS-S
http://www.dirms.com/
Following along that theme...you could also put Microsoft's (formerly SysInternals) PageDefrag to work, also:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/PageDefrag.mspx
KB,
I saw that article on the system restore, and tried that too... I then ran 3 different defraggers and got the same result.
I can't do partition to partition, even after formatting the hard drive, it won't give me the option to do partition to partition to second drive, when I try the second drive isn't available to copy to for some reason.
Time is becoming an issue on this, trying to get stuff out before the weekend, so I think I'm just going to have to do restore on the new drive and copy data back.
I really appreciate you guys trying to help me come up with a solution to this.
Merry Christmas!
Jappo
-=Kudos=- to sirbounty...
for his handling of this OP's question -and- laying out all the helpful options here on EE for answer resolution!!
I appreciate that very much. :^)
Yeah, I have to second that. I'm sorry for causing the moderator to have to get in on this, but I think I'm going to go ahead and award points for effort. It's not like you guys didn't try. You certainly did. Please forgive me for the bother RomMod.
Merry Christmas Guys!
Jappo
I'll send RomMod a fruitcake...lol
Thanx very much riteheer.  Best of luck to you!
~sirbounty
A fruitcake?  That's a good way to start a food fight... or at least that's about all they are good for to me...LOL
I did however recieve something called a whiskey cake from a client today.  Haven't tried it yet... hmmmm... think I'll go there now
Merry Chritmas!
