Recommendation for Network Monitoring Software

I'm looking for a basic network monitoring software.  Looking to keep it below $200.  To alert me on services mostly.  I'm also open to suggestoins as to which aspects of the network I should be kept abreast of.  I have a blackberry on which I would receive email alerts.  Which services would be silly to monitor?  Our network is very basic, only 3 servers.  The obvious would be exchange services, a ping that would alert me to whether my DC goes down.  Thanks in advance.

nagios is the best for this but not easy to setup but there is another way

To simplify this you can down load a copy of VMWare server (FREE http://www.vmware.com/download/server/)  then download the nsmon virtual appliance (http://www.vmware.com/vmtn/appliances/directory/295).

This is a preconfigured nagios system.
