Monitor shuts off upon clicking advanced display properties.
Everytime I go into control panel->display->properties and as soon as I click the advanced button, the monitor goes black and says no signal, until I reboot.
Any ideas? I am running XP, a factory graphics card/monitor in an e-machine.

If you have another machine you could try using VNC to connect to the faulty system as soon as the display goes off and see if there are messages attempting to be displayed or if the entire system is crashing.

>> because if the system is booting up fine and its working for a while than <<
What could have happened was the firmware in the monitor was working at one time and based on that setting were selected.
After that when it is booted the OS loads the stored settings query the monitor for the whole settings table.
Then the firmware in the monitor developes a problem.
Then when 'advanced' is clicked the OS is querying the monitor's firmware for the settings table but it can't be sent.
Driver issues are possible too but I think second choice as we know that, at least at the stored settings, the monitor works in Windows.
