12 divided by 0
A simple question…and answer, so I thought; what is 12 divided by 0?
I thought the answer would be zero, however, I’m told it’s not. Math is certainly not my forte, but I’m not sure what other answer is possible.
If I use my calculator, I get an Error, and a similar response in Excel.
Can someone please provide some guidance, and clarification to this question?
Cheers,
Dave

Your calculator is correct.
12 divided by 0 is an error.
(at least in the reals, there are ways to define it if you're working in a Riemann sphere or real projective line or division wheel)
