Spooler SubSystem App

I'm posting this here because I believe it's tied to Citrix or the core problem resides there. Here are my symptoms.

My Citrix server will receive a "Spooler SubSystem App encountered a problem and needed to close" message. The error report sent to Windows does not garner any help at all. They have no information on it. The corresponding event is:

Source: Application Error
Category: (100)
Type: Error
Event ID: 1000
User: N/A

"Faulting application spoolsv.exe, version 5.2.3990.1830, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.1830, fault address 0x0003b172"

When this happens, my clients can no longer print from Citrix, no printers are available. However, you can print from the locally installed printers on the server.

Has anyone encountered anything similar? Does anyone have any idea where I could start in order to rectify this?

Thanks very much.
Watch Question

Sounds like you have a driver that's crashing the spooler service.  Do you have any policies setup for printing?  Are there any PCL 6 print drivers installed?

As far as policies set up for printing, what types of policies are you referring to? Domain controlled policy, a local policy or a Citrix policy? There are no domain policies for printing. The print/driver policies are set up in Citrix, are you looking for something specific in there? and yes there are PCL 6 drivers installed on the server.
Yes, the Citrix policy.  Within your Citrix printer policy, do you have the "do not automatically install drivers" option set to enabled?  One of the print drivers is probably causing the issue (that's why I was checking about the PCL 6 driver).  Some drivers (like the HP 4200, some Kyocera, some Xerox drivers) that may not be listed in the printer compatibility list could be causing the issue.  Are there a lot of print drivers installed on the Citrix server(s)?

Are there any events in the event viewer leading up to the crash of the spooler?

Only three are installed locally.

HP LaserJet 4000 (PCL 6)
Toshiba 350
Toshiba MFP

Drivers installed in Citrix

The three mentioned above (all PCL 6) and:
Toshiba e-Studio350-450 PCL6
Microsoft Office Document Image Writer Driver
HP Universal Printing PCL 5
HP OfficeJet V40
HP OffieJet
HP LaserJt Series II (metaframe PCL4 universal Driver)
HP LaserJet 8100 PCL6
HP LaserJet 5Si
HP LaserJet 4100 Series PCL
HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL6
HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL
HP LaserJet 4000 Series PCL6
HP LaserJet 3050 Series PCL 6
HP LaerJet 3050 Series PCL 5e
hp LaserJet 3015 PCL 6
hp LaserJet 3015 PCL 5e
HP Color LaserHet PS (MetaFrame PCL5c Universal Driver)
HP Color LaserJet 4500 (MetaFrame PCL5c Universal Driver)
Generic/ Text Only
Citrix Universal Driver
Apple Color LW 12/660 PS

Finally, yes I do have the "do not automatically install drivers" option set to enabled.

What's odd is that the pirint spooler service never actually stops. I just have to restart it in order for the published app to be able to print. I also have the auto creation policy set to create only the default printer. I recently changed this and it's still recreating all of their printers. Any idea why that policy would not be enforced?

And to remove the drivers out of Citrix I would need remove them from the server itself and that should take care of the trick? You can't remove them solely from Citrix can you? Sorry, I'm a relative novice in Citrix.

I've since switched all printers to use the Citrix UPD and uninstalled all unnecessary drivers. Sorry it's taken so long but I was doing testing and needed to wait to see how all of my remote users responded. But...thanks for the help!! I appreciate it.
