Note: I have not put the complete error log here as it is about 400 kb in size.

I suspected one of the memory stick to be bad so removed it and now am running machine on only one 512 ddr ram stick.
I know other people who are running this software without any problem.
Pls help.

If you still get the error with only one stick of RAM,  I would suggest uninstalling it (Odin, that is), rebooting and maybe reinstalling it.   You might want to confirm you have All updates, both Windows, your AV and from odin.  Although finding anything out about it was a little difficult.  They may have some kind of support system.  All I could find was a phone number for the IT department.

Hi mtz1of4, you got the phone no. of that IT deptt ?

I have also talked to the IT support of my stock broker. But, they are not of much help.
There is no uninstaller for that software. One had to delete the folder and from the registry which I have done three times.
It's sheer cumbersome but I went through the ordeal. I have all the updates as always. Nothing helps.

I always get this exact error message in the event viewer:
"Faulting application dietodin.exe, version 7.9.1.2, faulting module dietodin.exe, version 7.9.1.2, fault address 0x001a9c0d."

I hope it makes sense to somebody.

you can test your ram with memtest86+ from www.memtest.org
Of course, I did that but it does not make much sense to me. Asking to walk me through would be akin to opening another thread in the hardware section. I also downloaded the windows memtest software and ran it for a few hours through the cd but it did not throw any error.

What's this fault address 0x001a9c0d ? What is fault address ? It always happen at this address only.
And why only this particular odin software crashes
Did you uninstall the Odin software, and reinstall it?
This software odin does not have any uninstaller. It has to be deleted along with its folder and also from registry : hkey_local_machine - softwares - odin folder. I have done that thrice and reinstalled again.

What is fault address 0x001a9c0d ? Does anybody know ?
A fault address is a memory address that is issued to your application. This error is more than likely caused by bad programming.

Has it worked ok in the past? Does it crash in the exact same places in the app? (ie. when your doing a certain task?)
mtz1of4,

It would probably be worth posting the link to the IT departments Tel number... Their support team could be better help here...
It has never worked ok on my computer. But, its working perfectly on my friend's computer.

DjDezmond, sometimes I used to get this type of error with windowx explorer also and it followed by dr. watson.
Then, quick launch and my computer would would disappear. But, after formatting my hdd it has occurred only once.
So, was that also bad programming ?

hey mtz1of4, you really working hard. Thanks for it. I did not get it from them. But, you are in the right direction.
All brokers provide such software with a few changes but basically its the same. DjDezmond, that error occurs anytime, no fixed patter.
I am reworking on that software. I request all you guys to hold on till I put my further experience with that software.

Pls.. till then.....

BASIC STEPS FOR USING ODIN DIET
1. Please unzip the scrip-file into the odin\diet\masters folder first time
otherwise you will not see any scrips in the trading platform (odin).
2. Login with username and password given. You will be asked to change the
password first time as it will have expired.
3. When logged in, the toolbar will light up fully and you will see the nifty
updating. This means you are connected to our servers.
4. Please note that odin will only work on Win2000 and XP and not behind a
firewall unless certain ports are opened.
5. Press F4 for the market watch window when logged in.
6. Enter scrips from the small white boxes near the top of the screen.
7. Box 3 is the NSE code, Box 4 is for EQ or BE, Box 5 is the company name.
8. When you see the scrip name in Box 3, highlight it and press ENTER. If the
white boxes are blank then logout and ensure that the scrip file is extracted
(4 files) into the odin\diet\masters folder.
9. Scrip will come in black window (market watch) and begin to update.
10. Add upto 30 scrips to view at the same time.
11. The demo will show you cash rates. The live system will also give you futures
and options rates.
12. We suggest that you adjust the column profile in the market watch by right
clicking in the window and going to column profile. There remove the columns
that you do not need, to make the screen neater and easier to view. Save the
column profile when done.
13. Make sure you save the scrips added also by right clicking in market watch
and saving portfolio – you will have to give a name for it.
14. You can save the workspace from FILE>Save workspace so that each time
you login your screen will automatically come in.
15. Goto TOOLS>PREFERENCES and click on WORKSPACE. Then browse and add
the workspace you have just saved.
16. Place the various options available in the TOOLS>PREFERENCES menu to
make the order/entry trading personalized to you.

And if you go through that forum it sounds like "investock" might know what he is talking about.
mtz1of4, I frequent that forum frequently.
Guess what, suddenly it has dawned upon me what maybe the cause after three weeks of suffering but it is such an ordeal,
I would try it later.
and what  do you think it is?

Hi there,

I have run memory testing on my both sticks of ram i.e. 512 X 2 RAM. The memtest86+ was run for more than four hours and windows memory diagnostic tool for over eight hours and it did not show any error. So, it seems the bad memory factor has been taken care of.

That software odin did not crash today but an old crash friend visited i.e windows explorer:

It is not that. I always use nick as Green Desert.
And I have upgraded my xp home to pro in the hope of rectifying this long overdue problem.
So, maybe that is how this computer name got messed up.
try running sfc /Scannow from the run box .
Oooo, you upgrade XP Home to Pro before fixing your issues with Home?

Please tell us it was a Clean Install of XP Pro and not an inplace upgrade.

Have you scanned this machine for virus or spyware/malware yet? See http://securitytango.com/tango.php  for some steps on getting cleaned up. (Don't forget, if you skip a step doing the Tango, you are just moving, not Dancing.)

If the sfc doesn't seem to help, I would recommend that you do a full chkdsk on your boot drive just to make sure it is functioning correctly.  To do that, go to Start/Run and type in the box
cmd
Then at the command prompt that comes up in the black window, type in
chkdsk c:\ /r
where there is a space between the \ and/. Chkdsk will tell you it can't do it but will at the next boot. Enter yes to permit that, then reboot. This will take some time because the /r option adds 2 additional tests to chkdsk.
Well, I have formatted my hdd completely and that particular problem with odin software did not reappear.
Let's keep my fingers crossed.
