Help - messages outbound messages stuck in remote queue due to GFI crash
We have an Exchange 2000 server running GFI MailEssentials 12. A disk failure corrupted our installation of ME (no GFI services running) and now all our outbound mail is stuck in queues marked for "Remote delivery".
Removing/reinstalling GFI is going to be a long process - is there a way I can reset the default SMTP virutal server to route mails directly until we get GFI back? There are no other Routing Group connectors or smart hosts in ESM, so I don't know how to get the queues out of "Remote delivery"
Hope to get an answer soon - our users depend on being able to send mail!
Thanks in advance,
Chris

If you exchange server can talk to the external mail servers on port 25 you can configure the SMTP to deliver mails directly to the recepient's mail server. You would need to configure the mail server with a DNS Server which can resolve external Domains.

Thanks for all the comments. We ended up resolving this issue by manually uninstalling GFI, then reinstalling Exchange 2000.
We needed to edit the registry to remove traces of the original GFI installation, then reinstall GFI fully, then uninstalled it using Add/Remove Programs
Our first attempt to reinstall Exchange 2000 failed when the process froze at "configuring registry entries for SMTP service" stage; we finally figured out that we needed to rename the mailroot folders as per Microsoft KB article 328333.
After Exchange 2000 installed successfully it was smooth sailing
