Something changed. Profiles were roaming fine for some time.  Now I’m running into problems were they aren’t working to well.

Looking at the workstation, I have an event id 1517, windows saved user registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off.  Memory used by the user’s registry has not been freed.  Registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

So I ran uphclean utility on the workstation and received the following event id 1401

The following handles in user profile hive … have been remapped because they were preventing the profile from unloading successfully

Svchost.exe (952)
HKCU\software\microsoft\windows nt\currentversion\network\location awareness (0x3d4)

This is happening on several workstations and I haven’t been able to find much information about it.  I don’t want to have to install the uphclean on all the workstations.  Anyone know what the problem might be with that registry setting?

Thank you
Randy

Have you checked the permissions on that hive? Give the user in question "Full Access" (should already have it, but just in case....

seems something(?) was holding the hive open.  Could never figure it out so the UPHclean utility installed on all workstations seems to have taken care of it.  Not sure what but i've got this going on in more then one organization.
