Connecting visitors laptop to windows 2003 server for internet access only - don't want to have to bother connecting to domain - how?

Hopefully simple.

I'm taking my laptop into an office that has Windows server 2003. I want to be able to get internet access, so can I just plug in my laptop to a free port on the switch and get internet access?

I was at first under the impression that I would have to log into the domain and add my laptop to it, but I have been told that this is not necessary.

So what do the experts on EE say?

Ok, but lets say I trust them wholeheartedly and I'm not worried about security, I assume then I can just do as Lazarus said right? just hook up to the network?

It really is that sometimes people need to go in and download their email. sometimes it is actual staff who bring in their own laptops and want to have quick interent access on them directly.

Printing is not necessary at this point, but probably good for me to learn how to do.

I have one of my networks setup like this. The DHCP gives out the IP and allows access to the Internet but you have to be a Domain memeber to log into the network itself. Internet works fine and the user is not logged into the network.

yes as long as you dont have any rules or crap you can log in locally and get an ip address and you should be good try it and let me know if you have any issues
