Sony Vaio's keyboard is going nuts!!!

Hey guys,

When I first booted into this laptop, I started to hear a series of key errors.  Actually scared people because they thought it was an alarm of some sorts.

After a while the ringing ended.  Now I noticed that the number pad that is built into the keyboard was actuated.  I clicked Shift + Num Lk and it went back to regular, however the, "n" key was no longer functional.  If I plug in a keyboard, I can use the n, but otherwise, no.

I rebooted the computer and started to get the same exact errors and had to hit Shift + numlock in order to get back to default, minus the, "n" key.

Any ideas other than carrying around an extra keyboard with me at all times.

What is the model of the notebook, perhaps there is some info particular to it that we can look for , plus we can look for a teardown for removing the keyboard.

This is probably caused by either a faulty key, or some gunk aroung the letter N that needs to be cleaned up.

Try either removing the keyboard to clean it, or if you are not technical, you can turn it upside down and shake it  gently to get th dirt off, with the computer turned off.

I hope this helps !

I can't find anything online to tell me how to take this keyboard off.  I never took a keyboard off a laptop before.  Anyone know of any good links?

One of my office people has an FS. I'll look at it tomorrow and let you know how to get it open.

Hey Earth Traveler,

Thanks for the link. Too bad it says to unscrew the screws that are shown with an arrow (in the picture) then later the picture doesn't show up.  Maybe the guy deleted them to free up his photobucket account.
