Study Guide/Books for SCJP exam
I have 5+ years of experience in Oracle/Unix. Oracle Pl/Sql forms, reports 6i
Now i want to move over to Java/J2EE.
I have purchased SL-275 Student Guide from SUN EDUCATIONAL SERVIECS
However, i feel this SUN book is very consise and does not provide much details about object oriented concepts. Most of it's content finish in 20 lines. Where 10 or so lines are of an incomplete program snippet!
I have to literally search for topics on the web and write details about the topic in the book. Topics like Pass Parameters as values, JavaDoc, Right/Left Shift Operator, Subclassing, Overloading Vs OverRiding, InstanceOf etc. My favourite site is of Java Tutorials from sun.com.
However, i want a book that covers all SCJP topics, but in detail.
I have two options:
1.SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java5 Study Guide by Kathy Sierra/Berry Bates, or
2.A Programmer's Guide to Java Certification: A Comprehesive Primer, Second Edition by Khalid Moughal, Rolf Rasmussen: Good book with extra details. (Should i start off from here... I am novice in java.)
3.Complete Java 2 Certification Study Guide by Phillip Heller: Very Poor Review on Amazon.com
Which one should i go for. I do not have any experience in Java .

However, if I were you, I will learn Java by practicing it instead of reading the books. You may be good in theory but may not be good in applying it at work.
My suggestion is while you read the book, you also do some web application in Java J2EE to get yourself familiar with it
