SUBNET MASK AND IP ADDRESS

hi, i'd like to create an internal IP for my PC
this internal IP can only bee seen from my own PC
I want to use this IP for IIS. i cannot use 127.0.0.1 because of some IIS binding limitation.
I already have a static internet IP
I cannot figure out what subnet mask/IP combination i should add for this new internal IP. help

Hi,

May i ask more details on your question?

* you want the internal ip which should be in the same subnet of your systems IP, isn't?

i do not understand about subnet mask
i tried to set something like 255 255 255 254 and IP 10.0.0.1, but windows says is invalid.
what subnet mask i use does not matter for me, as long as it wont conflict with the network.
i do not wish other PCs in the network to see the new internal IP
Any internal IP will not be invisible to your LAN. You can try:

IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Ping the IP before you use it to make sure it is not already used by some one else.

If you add another address on an existing network card, e.g if at the moment you have 192.168.0.101 then you could either add another address 192.168.0.102 say and anyone can get to it or you could add, for example, 10.0.0.100 - i.e. a different range of IP addresses.  You could use another 192.168.x.x address if you know which are used.  If the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 then it means only the last address is on the same subnet as you.  If you use anything else, e.g. 192.168.2.100 then no-one on the network wil be able to communicate with it unless they also add a 192.168.2.x address.  Other PC's could see the traffic on the network but ignore it because it is not for them.

You add an extra address in the properties of your LAN card, then properties of tcpip, Advanced button.  Subnet mask if fairly irrelevant here, just use 255.255.255.0 and set your IP address.

Not sure if that explanation made it better or worse!
