USB Keyboard Stops Working As Windows Loads.

Hi guys,

I've got a Dell Dimension that doesn't have PS2 ports, only USB. A new USB keyboard I've got for it works until Windows begins to load, then the lights go out and I get nothing. The same for the mouse. Any ideas? I've tried safe mode and I get the same results.

This is a good article about troubleshooting USB issues: http://www.usbman.com/Troubleshooter%20General.htm

Going through my BIOS settings just in case, but like I said, the keyboard works just fine during boot. I can get into the settings, make changes and more. It's just as Windows itself begins to load that the lights go out and nothing works as far as keyboard/mouse.

No BIOS changes to be made; nothing about USB DOS mode or anything like that, to be honest, at all.

Have you got another usb keyboard that you could try?

Then you could isolate whether it is an issue with the keyboard - or with Windows.

Tried another USB keyboard and same issue. Most of the KB links on the second site you posted that are relevant to my problem are no longer there, so I wasn't able to try all of those, sadly.

This is a pretty weird problem, I'll increase the points to 250.

In desperation I reseated memory/CPU/etc.... and it worked.

I'll give you the points since you were the only one who tried to help. Thanks!
