hi all
"error extracting support files -access is denied"....this is the error message i get when i try to uninastall my previous webcam driver, it is also the same error message i get if i try to install my new webcam driver. the webcam i am wanting to install is from office tek [they are only suppliers], i cannot find a brand name for this cam,it is a simple pc cam with usb connection, why is there always a prob with these lousy products?
it don't seem to make any difference if you pay $5 or $50,they all end up having something wrong with them, i have spent around 6 hours "all up" looking into this before i decided to ask the brains in EE, I HOPE SOMEONE HERE CAN SOLVE THIS FOR ME,
Thanx___________-ps , OS sys xp home 2ghz 400gb

Hello Golferiam,

You spoke of suppliers so i take it this is at an office?

How exactly are you going about installing the drivers? Via a cd or through the network itself?

This is an InstallShield issue and most likely due to insufficient permissions on the machine. If you are using a Windows XP/2000/NT machine, you need to have administrative permission to run an InstallShield Professional setup. Make sure you have the correct permissions.

hi thanx for a speedy response, no it's not at an office, its my home comp, the driver is on a minidisc, and i agree it is something to do with admin rights, i have full access , its my machine, the problem might be that i bought it second hand pre installed and was worried about crap like this happening i've had similiar probs but nothing i couldnt fix, i have installed a cam previously on this comp, and never had this prob.
i have changed the things io thought i would need to, so as to make sure my admin access wouldn't be hindered but there must be more i need to do, and to be perfectly honest i just do not know where to look to solve these issues i have spent hours asnd hours navigating the insides of this comp, and cannot see anything that needs doing further any suggestions you have will be appreciated
Hi Golferiam,
I have often seen odd problems like this that seem to be related to the user profile. you might try creating a new user profile and giving that user profile full administrator rights, and seeing if the problem still continues. you might also try running a utility called dial-a-fix. it can be downloaded at http://djlizard.net/software/Dial-a-fix-v0.60.0.24.zip I usually just click on the double green checkmark to enable all choices and hit go. if it hangs, you have some possibly serious underlying issues. If you can give me the exact error message with the error number, It would be easier to narrow down the actual issue.

Hi greg, the error message is exactly as i have quoted, i  did try creating a new user with full admin rights and still had no luck, that's the reason i asked for help in here, .
i thought i might of had a virus or spyware but everything is clean and clear.
its only with these minidiscs that there is a prob, any other prog i have installed goes smoothly without issue.
just to give you an example i decided to install my entire vp eye pro again which includes cam drivers and it was all done in about 10 minutes after self removal of the old program, but that is on a full sized disc-i even re-installed my versa cam drivers without probs, but thats on a full size disc to, i just wonder if it's a disc read prob, i dont like minidiscs.
i'll try using the link you sent....bye for now

i ran dial a fix greg, ...nothings changed
have you tried to copy the disk to the local drive, and then installing from the local drive?

no i haven't..there don't seem to be an option available to do that as it auto runs. how do i do it?
exit the auto run when it opens. Open My Computer and create a folder on your C:\ drive to put the files in(you can put the folder anyhere you want, I like to put things here because it is easy to navigate to later),  with the cd still in the drive, open my computer and right click on the drive with the cd and left click on "open." Once the contents of the disk are dispayed, ctrl+A will select all files ctrl+c will copy the files, you can then navigate to the folder you created and paste the contents into your folder. This may take a few minutes depending on the amount of data. once the paste has completed you can removed the disk from the drive, and start the setup file from the folder on you drive. typically this would be setup.exe, although it may be a filename.msi and I have occasionally seen some that are easiest to open the autorun and install from that interface.

Good Luck!

tried it...and it won't allow files to be copied "access denied"
