Tomcat 5.5 startup problems getting, java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina.setAwait(boolean)

I get the following message when I try to start Tomcat:

java.lang.NoSuchMethodException: org.apache.catalina.startup.Catalina.setAwait(boolean)
      at java.lang.Class.getMethod(Unknown Source)
      at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.setAwait(Bootstrap.java:358)
      at org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap.main(Bootstrap.java:430)

the method that it refers to is a part of catalina.jar which is located under Tomcat 5.5\server\lib, as far as I can see.

Any help would be very much appriciated :)

Was this a fresh install?? Looks like you have an older version of catalina.jar.. you can this. Download tomcat5.5 as a zip from tomcat.apache.org. Unzip, & extract the catalina.jar to the server/lib and then check.
Looks like a classpath issue. Do you have other catalina.jar files in your classpath ?
Try starting the 5.5 tomcat from the catalina.home (ie. Tomcat 5.5\bin) using the catalina.bat

yeah - n_sachin1's idea is a good one.

you need to run the command:

catalina run

the logs / op will be on the console itself..

It's a fresh install of Tomcat 5.5, and I've checked the classpath, and it refers to Tomcat 5.5\server\lib

My catalina.jar is 635kb and was created 12. september 2006, 16:10:27.  I tried catalina run, and it set the classpath to my tomcat installation, (it was right in the first place though, but just to make sure). I then tried to overwrite the catalina.jar with newer ones, even from the new 6.0 version of tomcat, but I still get the same error.

It was the j2ee.jar in my server\lib that was causing the problem. Remove it and problem solved :)
