Hi
I am struggling to find out whether the following is possible. I need an all in one device - a PC with a screen attached to it... kind of like a tablet PC. But I don't need a keyboard/mouse - all i need on it is a cursor pad. Now i can find laptops now from around £350. Is there anyone out there who can build me a batch of these devices around the same cost? Basically it needs to have a spec around the following:
Sempron 2800 chip  or above
512mb of RAM
Graphics card
80gb hard drive
Wireless
USB
Serial
15 inch screen
cursor pad

I am looking for a company that could build these in batches of 10,20,50,100
any ideas?
thanks

Nick

Anything is possible ... but in those quantities you're not likely to get anything custom built for anything close to your price target.   I think you're better off just buying laptops and disabling the keyboard (just use a key re-mapping program to trap all the keys and "do nothing").    You can do that with a fairly straightforward Visual Basic program ... the basic keyboard hooks you need are detailed here:  http://www.codeguru.com/vb/gen/vb_system/keyboard/article.php/c4829

thanks but i need the device itself - if i can't get close to that price point with a PC are there any electronic gizmos that I could use? I don't need PC functionality - I just need to run a single simple simulation that uses DirectX and has some logic behind it. I would be happy with a PCB that contains the logic, some flash memory  and wireless capability

Do you remember Game And Watch or any of the single function style electronic gadgets. I was thinking a super sized version of those.

any thoughts?

If you "Google" for "ITX motherboards" you'll get a fairly good list of suppliers ... many of whom have some interesting kits that may let you build what you want.  For example, notice the "mini-ITX laptop" someone built here:  http://www.mini-itx.com/   You could build that without a keyboard and it should be about what you're looking for :-)

Another alternative is to contact a custom PC builder ... someone like this:  http://www.simplifiedinnovation.com/?gclid=CPO0uKTHlYoCFRTWJAodr2TAnA  (I have no idea if they can build what you want ... but it's worth a phone call or e-mail)
