Best method/device for Tracing out Ethernet cables
I have many Ethernet wall jacks that are wired up but not plugged into the switches in our Telephone room (way more wall jacks than the 47 ports already in use on the switch). The cables there are a birdsnest and incorrectly annotated (wires aren't tagged correctly and apparently in too many cases have differing designations on either ends). The phone room is on a different floor from these Wall jacks that I need to make active.
Basically I need to determine which cable ends match the cable ends at those wall jacks upstairs.
I've been looking at tone generators (Fluke) - is this the appropraiate device for this task and is there anything I need to know about how to correctly use it to ascertain the matching ends?
Thank You
