SelfSSL & having no security warning popup

Hello,

I created  a SSL cert with SelfSSL and it works fine except it prompts the user about a security warning. They can install the certificate on their machine and the alerts goes away but is there a way to eliminate this downloading of the cert to the clients machine? This is a intranet site within a VPN.

Thanks!

Does the security warning mention that 'the server name on the certificate is incorrect' (or mismatched...or something to that effect)? Or does it refer to an 'untrusted source'?

ASKER

untrusted source. everything else is fine

figured it was the latter.....I don't think it's possible to inherently trust a SelfSSL cert (may be wrong about that). And I personally don't know of a way to turn off the warning (and would highly recommend not turning it off); I know the Advanced tab of the Internet options gives you the ability to disable the warning about mismatched cert address...

I'll do a little more digging and post back if I find something....of course the other option would be to obtain a cert from a trusted authority (i.e. Thawte, Verisign, etc.).
yeah... i wonder how Verisgn and Thawte and others are able to be 'trusted' certifying authorities and why I cant create my own.
