Document font spacing changed after printing in Word 2003

I have the latest Word 2003 - updated but on a few machines the font spacing gets squashed to the left - many characters over the top of each other. This happens when sending to the printer (Different printers - all new print drivers) and now it happened to a customer who recieved an e-mail Word attachment from me - it came up normal on her computer and then before her eyes "crunched" to the left.

I'm using standard fonts and don't have any reported font substitutions.

Can anyone suggest something to try.

Thanks
Danny

Do any of these documents have track changes?

This symptom has been fixed in the past with Office 2003 updates. Any chance that one or two missed the update?
Oooo, interesting.
I ran the office updates until it would run no more.
Any idea what I should be at?
The version I have is 11.8106.8107
Do you know if I uninstall, reinstall and put the patches back if it would help.

vmalviya may have it right. I seem to recall that if you just switch to another printer and switch back, it fixes the issue.
Well dreamboat, its kinda the other way around!

Word being a document processing program, initializes the default printer driver whenever it (the Word application) starts up.
For example, if you have any of the generic text only printers set as your default printer, you will be surprised to find that you will only get about 3 fonts in your fonts drop down list!!!
something like:
8cpi device font,
10cpi device font,
12cpi device font.

In essence, although you might a million fonts installed on your computer, when it comes to MS Word, if your printer does not support printing a particular type of a font, it's not gonna show up in the fonts dropdown list.

So, going by that fact, i thought it's possible that quick dan might see a difference in the way his documents print out!
QuickDan, if you still haven't got any success on this, you could also try printing to MODI and see if it prints correctly.

If it prints just fine in MODI and the .mdi file that gets saved looks just fine, then you can try printing from the Microsoft Document Imaging program.  You will surprised to find that printers print 'documents' differently and 'images' differently.

SO it is just possible, that if not directly from MS Word, you could first print to MODI and then print the .mdi file to your printer rather than .doc document!!!
Sorry for the delay but this was an intermittent problem but we've had no issues since we changed the printer to MODI.

Thanks
