Either  ntobin didnt respond to his question and it was abandoned and deleted as I can only find one question and that is sending emails from a server.

Thank you for the information.  here is the linkt to the previous discussion.https://www.experts-exchange.com/Operating_Systems/Linux/Q_22075146.html
Also this is LYNX 4.0 not Linux.  The file format on the HD is not the same.  I tried to use the linux data recovery software and the result is unsupported file format on disk.
The link that is broken is http://blake.home.cern.ch/blake/linux/lynxfs/lynxfs-0.1.README
Anymore Ideas???

Thanks
Curt

How can I get ahold of Nick(ntobin).  It appears that only he has the solution.  The page that was linked to here is part of the European Organization for Nuclear Research(CERN),  I do not expect to gain acess there for obvious reasons.

Thanks

I found a solution.
install new hard drive in machine and load software as normal.
log into coputer as "root"
Go to lowest level "cd /" <return>
Create a new directory  "mkdir oldroot" <return>
connect old hard drive to ribbon cable using second port
Mount HD "mount -o ro /dev/ide.1a /oldroot"
check filesystem  "ls" <enter>
you should now see two drives
Note: you will have to "mount" the second drive everytime you restart the computer.
Use the copy directory command to copy all files that you need,  "cd -R/oldroot /directory /"
This will copy all files in that directory.
You may also have to change write permission on some of the files.

Curt your brilliant I hope others will appreciate your solution.
Please ask for a refund as you solved it yourself.
