Hello I have a Windows XP machine with TWO accounts. When I originally set up the machine I had a Administrator account called "Administrator" and a user account called "Snoopy".
The Administrator account was hidden from the welcome screen.
I acidentially made the user account a administrator on the machine.
Now it won't allow me to change the user account "Snoopy" back to a "limited account".
HELP!!! AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!
If so, at the welcome screen, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete twice in a row. After doing this a logon prompt will come up. Login to the computer using the administrator account and try to remove the rights from there. Hope this helps!
I AM logging in using the method you mentioned with the administrator account.
if I do that it will not let me change the user accont(Snoopy) from a administrator account to a limited user account.
Any other suggestions?
Any XP experts out there?
The only reason it would not let you do what I said above is if you are trying to make these changes while you are logged into the snoopy account itself. However, if you're logging in under a different account that's an administrator and you are not able to delete or modify the snoopy account then there is something real hoaky going on with your Windows XP installation.
The only alternative I give is for you to copy the files you want off the hard drive and start from scratch.
My english must be not so good.
I am logging in as "Administrator". I cannot change or remove the account "Snoopy" on this machine. There are no other accounts on the machine.
Try creating a new limited user account and copying the files you want from the snoopy account to the new limited user account. Then change or create a password to the snoopy account so that only you know the password to get into it.
Here is the solution:
1. Go into control panel
2. Go to Administrative tools
3. Go to Computer management
4. From here choose local users and groups
5. Select the user
6. Select "limited account".
This will NOT NOT work if you use the "User Accounts" app in Control Panel.
Try it and see.
