What's the easiest way to sync two remote, unconnected copies of the same MS Access 2000 database?

Hi,

Within the next 12 months, I'll need to employee someone for the first time to assist in processing orders on an MS-Access 2000 database.

I currently run the database on a laptop and will usually be working in a different town to my new assistant. We therefore need to sync the two databases each couple of days when I return to the office.

What is the easiest way to achieve this?

The database is a fully integrated quote generation, order processing, materials purchasing and CRM database with 20 tables and is approximately 100MB in size including all current data. I wrote the database myself over the past two years and it is an integral part of the business.

Kind Regards
Microsoft Access

What about creating a network that can be accessed by both computers. Splitting the database into a front end/back end and giving each a copy of the front end. Instead of the tables being on each computer you create a link to the back end which holds the tables. No updates needed, both computers will always have access to all information.

Or you could create a replica and synchronize every week or so.

Thanks to all who posted. Indirect Replication seems a possible solution. Two questions:

1. Comment from boag2000: "One note though, I believe this functionality has been removed in Access 2007."

This could be a problem. I'll need to upgrade the laptop, OS and Office during the next 6 months, presumably to include Access 2007. Are there any solutions to sync Access 2007 replicas?

2. When you sync the replicas, how does the sync process cope with identical keys? e.g. both users could create a new client with the same ID (through autonumbering).

Thanks - SW

Thanks Jeff & Jim.  It's good to know the options - Replication if I leave in Access 2000, web portal in Access 2007. Seems I will need to bring in some outside help on this one to resolve GUID conflicts, but at least a solution exists either way.

Kind Regards

Thanks but I would prefer if you re-opened this question and split the points between Jim and I.

Or transfer all of the points to Jim.

I provided a possible solution of using replication.
However, as you stated, you will be upgrading and this will functionality will be lost in 2007.

Jim provided a more workable solution of using a Terminal Services.

Jeff,

Points are fine as they are as far as I'm concerned.
