Cannot access Webview to check on new switch

Hi Folks, I have just set up the home network using a Linksys SSRW208 8 port switch with webview.
Everything is working fine except that I cannot log onto the webview login screen.
I follow the 1. Click the Start button. Select Programs and choose Accessories. Select Communications. Select HyperTerminal from the options listed in this menu.
2. On the Connection Description screen, enter a name for this connection. In the example, the name of
connection is SRW208. Select an icon for the application. Then, click the OK button.
3. On the Connect To screen, select a port to communicate with the Switch: COM1, COM2, or TCP/IP.
Using XP, I can access the internet ok and whether I use the network cable or the console cable I still have the same problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same trouble using telnet.
It tells me that the connection failed because the connected party failed to rspond in time or it did not respond.

What port do you select, Com1, 2, or TCP/IP?

That is it only gives me a choice of Com 1 or TCP/IP

If you use Com1 you also need a special cable from the serial port of your pc to the switch, and for that you also need to know the settings needed, like baudrate etc. Those settings should be somewhere within the docs. For tcp/ip you need the ip address of the switch. Either it has a default ip (check the documentation), or you first need to set the first settings via that special cable I mentioned earlier.

Hi Rindi, thanks for yor help.  I have the seriel cable connected, I also have the user docs which have given me the baud rates as below.
Set the serial port settings as follows:
Bits per second: 38400
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: None
Then, click the OK button.
I have done all this and when I connect connect using either the network cable, the seriel cable or both I still don't have any luck.

I have also tried to connect through the browser using the ip address, but ti keeps telling me that it has either timed out or the user is not connected

What happens when connecting with the serial cable and you have entered the above configuration with hyperterminal? What errormessage do you get? Are there any characters you can see on screen?

In the bottom bar does it say connected or disconnected? Has the switch been used? If so it might have already been setup to other values than the default. In that case you should look for factory reset option.

I have finally been able to connect using hyper terminal, but when I use command prompt it tells me that
the connection failed because the connected party failed to erspond in time or it did not respond.
I type the ip adderess in the browser and it always errors out.
One thing for sure it is very slow to connect using hyoerterminal.
I was hoping that webview would let me see how much is down loading on each node.

Hello nedkelly,

The default IP of the SRW208 is 192.168.1.254 so make sure to setup a computer in the same subnet and make sure it's not in a certain VLAN different from the administrative VLAN you've setup on the SRW208 before attempting to access the switch and configure it using a webbrowser.

If you can access it, at "admin" => "firmware upgrade" you can load the latest firmware into the device, maybe it'll solve the issues you're running into with the console too.
Personally on the Linksys Switches I prefer the webgui above the console as it shows more information at a single time. (just a personal preference though)

Best regards,

LucF
