The 32m and 64m refers to the amount of memory dedicated for video, 32m would definately not cut it with vista and even 64m if it even worked it would run verrrryyy slow.
I would'nt recommend Vista to anyone that was running older hardware, although it "may" work it would run terrible.
I can tell you that Vista WILL run on a 32MB video card, as I am running
it on a 32MB MX440.
Though you may have to live without the Aero styles..
I would say your issues are more likely related to drivers. There are other
people out there who have your same card and went for the upgrade anyways..
It took some tinkering, but they were able to upgrade and are sucessfully running
Vista with the Glass appearence setting.
When MS says something is not supported, it doesn't mean it won;t work,
or that you can;t find support for it!! Where there is a will, there is a way, and
the community is your best shot sometimes!
It's just the driver - it's the same for both 32 and 64. It's the localization string at the bottom of the inf that gives it the friendly name. It could be anything you put there.
You should be able to tell whether you have 32 or 64MB in the driver properties.
There's no harm at all in this name - as I mentioned, it's simply the driver as it works for both models.
Well that is screwy and deceiving for the average layman.. to go into their
device mgr and see this vague description of either or...
Maybe next time I will put in a personal ad... Mshine 6/12 and then when we meet
and she asks which is it, 6 or 12, I will say you have to look further into the properties
to find out!! :oP LOL
The Go5200 comes with 32MB or 64MB of memory. It's the exact same card only one has more RAM. The description is simply telling you that the device is either/or.
You can get more info by either using Device Manager or you can look up the specs of your computer. Since this is a laptop, it's fairly easy to find out.
Components
Components are those devices that are internal to a computer -- the PC boards, the central processor (CPU), the memory (RAM), disk and video controllers and so on.
I would'nt recommend Vista to anyone that was running older hardware, although it "may" work it would run terrible.
