Access Wiki

EE is one of the best places for Access information. But it lacks well written articles on Access concepts. Consider the question that comes up frequently about records getting saved accidentally with bad or missing data. This type of FAQ could answered in two articles, one about the way Access commits records and another about good form validation techniques.

I've thought for a while already that it would be a good idea to start an Access Wiki. But I'd love to hear some more thoughts and opinions. Would we be duplicating information that is available at sites like mvps / Access Web? I find that site to be helpful but frequently inadequate. I think the Wiki could link to other sites rather than rewriting the same information (or copying it). I think the Wiki would really need to become large and authoritative, with good searching and indexing so that relevant topics can be found quickly. A page full of sample databases available for download would also be nice.

Is there anyone here willing to help by doing some web programming? Anyone want to help put together articles? Submit sample databases?

Just a couple of more comments on some of Jeff's remarks:

<<But again, as Raynard7 mentioned, tight “Control” over the content is needed.
Who gets to submit what?
Whose explanation is better?>>

The idea was that a Page Editor (now you know why that paticular title) was to lead a team of Experts to produce content to be published on EE.  Personally, I see that very much as a team effort.  A PE would not so much pick and chose, but simply corridinate the effort.  A roundtable of Expert's would vette the contents, check for technical accuracy, readability, etc.    The PE would then have a pool content on which to draw from and see about getting EE updated on a regular basis keeping the site fresh.

That's the way it was supposed to work, at least in theory anyway...

I sure appreciate the input. I'm listening. Hoping some of the other regulars here will contribute their opinions yet.

I think a Wiki is a good solution. The only problem with it is that it isn't directly connected to EE. It would be better to have EE support our idea and our motivation. We might run into problems if we copy solutions from EE to our outside Wiki.

If EE isn't going to help us out and make it possible, I think we should just do our own. But it will take some willing volunteers and organized collaberation.

I'd like to see such features as voting/polls so that we know which articles people are finding helpful. Suggestions/complaints on articles so that we know what's missing. Etc.

HK,

<I think a Wiki is a good solution>
...A good solution to what problem?

Again, I don't really know how a "Wiki" would help?
Why not a BLOG?
Why not create your own site?
Why not petition yourself as a PE/Moderator.

<If EE isn't going to help us out and make it possible, I think we should just do our own>
I think you are on your own here buddy!
:)

Again, I thought your original post was a suggestion to make the site better. Not a reccommedation for Secession !
:)

Again, I am curious as to what the other Experts have to say on this.

Thank you as well for your input as well.

As far as the skill level, I was refering to providing it at Post time. It would be part of the "Ask a Question" procedure.
