SBS client cannot see server resources when connected to VPN

Hi,
We have an SBS 2003 (std edition) server with all service packs and updates applied. 2 remote users out of the 7 on the system, can connect to the VPN but then not see the shared resources on the server (eg if you do a search for the server and open it up it only displays a couple of system folders and not the data shares).
I have come across the problem before and disabling offline files and folders does the job - the problem is that these people need the offline folders to be available and when I re-enable the offline files the problem is still there.
One additional piece of info - when I do a search for the server with offline files disabled but connected to the VPN it cannot find the server and I cannot ping it (however it must know its there because the VPN that the machine is connected to is controlled by the server!).

Any thoughts please.

Hi,

I have inherited the system and so did not setup the laptops myself - I was thinking of creating a new profile on  the laptop I have in my posession - to see if that helped.

The IP range is different on each network - and I can remote desktop on the the server no problem from my location - whereas the laptop does displays the symptoms described.

Are you using the Small Business Server Connection Manager downloaded from the Remote Web Workplace main menu?  Or a manually created VPN?

Also, please post a COMPLETE ipconfig /all from the server.

I took a look at your SSL certificate and it seems as though you have not properly used the Configure Email and Internet Connection Wizard (CEICW -- which is linked as Connect to the Internet in the Server Management Console > To-Do List) to create the certificate.

What it looks like is that you installed Certificate Services on your SBS which is not right.  Please review the how-to and networking info linked below.

A visual how-to is here:  http://sbsurl.com/ceicw and a full networking overview for SBS is at http://sbsurl.com/msicw

Hi,
I have discovered another piece of info; I think the issue may be to do with VPN DNS, as I now cannot remote desktop onto the server using the resolved name but I can when  using the IP address.

Addtionally when I VPN from a client laptop I can see data using the IP but not the resolved name, so the folders i'm seeing with offline files enabled are only the cached ones.
Regards
