UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME - STOP: 0x000000ED - on EIsystems laptop

I have an EI System laptop with windows XP installed

A few months ago my laptop would go onto my screensaver then it would freeze up so i disabled my screen saver.

Now i came to use the laptop and it comes up with the windows screen with the green bar going across, then after about 60 seconds it comes up with a blue screen and displays the following error

UNMNOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

***STOP: 0x000000ED (0x81ade6d0, 0x0000006, 0x00000000, 0X00000000)

I have not added any new hardware.

I have also looked on the mircosoft web site and it suggests running CHKDSK by using the windows disk (EISYSTEMS recovery CD...

However, the laptop will not boot from cd, it tries to boot from cd but never actually boots then boots off the hard drive again and put me back on the blue screen.

I have also tried to use an XP professional CD OEM that i have for my desktop just so that I could get to the dos section to run CHKDSK but again this disk would not boot.

Does anyone have suggestions to help me with this please?

There is not any loud or worrying noises from the hard drive.

I have also read that faulty memory can cause this but I am not sure where to start.

Thanks

Aura

Can you boot into safe mode (Press f8 a couple of time before windows starts up, and then in the resulting menu select safe mode or safe mode command prompt only)? If you can boot then you can start chkdsk /x from there.

I have also tried "last known good configuration" and "safemode" but neither of these work either.

Thanks AURA

Maybe you either don't have a standard XP installation CD, or it is bad. You can first try getting a UBCD and then booting that. If that doesn't boot either you will first have to consider replacing the CD/DVD Drive. If you can boot the UBCD, use the Manufacturer's HD test utils on it to test your drive. You should also, to be on the safe side, remove your HD and connect it as a 2nd disk to a desktop PC (you'll probably need a 2.5" to 3.5" IDE adapter). Now copy your important data off the disk.

Also, if the UBCD can boot from your laptop, you can create a UBCD4Win, then boot your PC with that and run chkdsk from there.

Ok I have tried Get Data back for NTFS and that would not work and the drive is making a clicking sound so I have sent the drive off for recovery to disk labs in tamwork UK.

Thank you for all the feedback, Aura

In the end it has turned out that the hard drive was dead and luckily they had a backup from 4 months ago and emails are based on webmail so all is good after replacing the hard disk drive.

rulirahmadi:::::

On your link it suggested that hardware is faulty or damaged and then went only hard drives so I have awarded you the points.

Thank you

Oh, thank you for the point. I dunno about the instructions on the link. I just got the link from here and bookmarked it for my future solution :).

Glad your problem solved now.
